A car lost control around 1:30 a.m. this morning and crashed into the Willow Grove School at 777 Checker Drive in Buffalo Grove. The vehicle veered off the road and struck the school’s front entrance, displacing a steel support at the corner of the office area. Local authorities quickly responded, and the Buffalo Grove Fire Department (BGFD) called in the MABAS Division 4 & 5 Technical Rescue Team to assist with the scene.
Emergency crews from across Lake County arrived with specialized equipment and trained personnel. After the car was safely removed, firefighters worked to clear debris and stabilize the structure. A two-post vertical shore was constructed to support the overhead beam and ensure the building remained safe.
Several fire departments and emergency units were on scene, including Buffalo Grove Engine 26 and Tower 25, both recently delivered from Ferrara. Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Department’s Squad 51 also responded, bringing a light tower to illuminate the area and supplies like lumber. The MABAS Divisions 4 & 5 TRT brought their equipment, including a supply trailer transported by a Gurnee FD roll-off tractor and a new IHC 4400 roll-off tractor.
In addition, the Metropolitan Emergency Support Services (MESS) provided a warming bus and a canteen unit to support responders. Buffalo Grove Squad 26 was the first unit on the scene, deploying a Command Lite tower to provide lighting and setting up a work table and saw for structural shoring.
The incident left a visible mark on the school, but no injuries were reported. After several hours of work, the fire department completed their operations, and the scene was cleared. The crash has sparked concern in the community, with residents closely following updates on the situation.
