A car lost control sometime after 1:00 AM this morning and crashed into the Willow Grove School located at 777 Checker Drive in Buffalo Grove. The vehicle veered off the road and struck the school’s exterior, coming to a stop after pushing a steel support beam at the corner of the school building. Local authorities immediately called for assistance from the MABAS Division 4 & 5 Technical Rescue Team, which dispatched equipment and specialists from across Lake County.
Firefighters arrived on scene and worked quickly to clear debris and stabilize the structure. A two-post vertical shore was constructed to support the overhead beam, ensuring the building remained safe while further inspections were conducted. The incident caused significant disruption, but no injuries have been reported so far.
Several fire departments responded to the call, including Buffalo Grove Engine 26 and Tower 25, both recently delivered from Ferrara. Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Department's Squad 51 also arrived, bringing a light tower to illuminate the area and providing lumber for shoring efforts. Additionally, the MABAS Divisions 4 & 5 TRT brought essential supplies, including a container transported by the Gurnee Fire Department's roll-off tractor. A new IHC 4400 roll-off tractor was used to transport the supply trailer to the scene.
The Metropolitan Emergency Support Services (MESS) also sent a warming bus and a canteen unit to assist with logistics and provide food for responders. Buffalo Grove Squad 26 was the first unit to arrive, deploying a Command Lite tower to light the area and setting up a work table and saw to begin structural shoring.
Photos from the scene show the extent of the damage and the coordinated response from multiple agencies. The car was eventually removed, and the school was left with visible signs of the crash, though no major structural failures were reported. Officials are still investigating the cause of the accident, and the school is expected to remain closed for at least a day for safety assessments.
