August 5, 2015 – Over the past year, Nihon Sekkei, Inc. and Autodesk, Inc. have joined forces to push the boundaries of building information modeling (BIM) in Japan. Their collaboration has focused on creating a more efficient and integrated BIM system that enhances the value of building lifecycle data for facility owners and stakeholders across all stages of construction and management. Recently, the two companies shared their progress and outlined plans for the future.

Together, Nihon Sekkei and Autodesk have developed an advanced BIM solution tailored to meet the specific needs of the Japanese market. This system is built on Autodesk Revit and aims to streamline workflows by enabling seamless integration across architectural, engineering, and construction processes. Key features include:

  • Uniform access to data across design, construction, and facility management workflows, improving coordination and reducing errors;
  • Enhanced visualization tools that allow teams to review structural performance and specifications, promoting better communication;
  • Seamless data sharing between domestic design software, fluid analysis tools, and accounting systems, boosting design accuracy and efficiency;
  • Revised drawing standards that support extended use of BIM data at both design and construction sites;
  • Implementation of Autodesk Dynamo to automate design tasks and optimize lifecycle costs through algorithmic solutions;
  • Plans to introduce standardized information for operations and maintenance, ensuring long-term value for building owners.

Looking Ahead

The partnership will continue to test and refine the integrated BIM system throughout the entire building lifecycle—from initial planning and design to ongoing operation and maintenance. The goal is to deliver a robust, user-friendly platform that provides real-world benefits to facility owners and managers in Japan.

In addition to expanding the system’s capabilities, the companies plan to share their knowledge and best practices with global partners. This includes collaboration with international firms and academic institutions leading the way in BIM innovation. By fostering open dialogue and technology exchange, they aim to drive industry-wide improvements and promote the adoption of BIM worldwide.
