This message is from Lt. Greg Zahn of the Waukegan Police Department. The Waukegan Police and Fire Memorial Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established in 2017 by dedicated members of the Waukegan Police and Fire Departments. The fund was created with a heartfelt mission: to provide financial support to the families of our fallen heroes—specifically surviving spouses and children—whether they lost their loved ones on or off duty while actively serving. In the immediate aftermath of such a loss, the fund offers direct financial assistance to help ease the burden. Over time, we also plan to give small gifts to the children on their birthdays and during the holidays. Additionally, each child will receive a more meaningful gift upon completing 8th grade and graduating high school. While these gestures are thoughtful, the true purpose is to remind families that they remain an important part of our police and fire family. Following a break last year due to the pandemic, the Waukegan Police and Fire Memorial Fund is excited to announce its annual fundraiser. This year’s event will feature Michael Winslow, best known as Sgt. “Motor Mouth†Jones from *Police Academy*, along with his friends. The show will take place at the Genesee Theatre on September 9th at 7:30 PM. Not only will ticket sales directly benefit the fund, but we’ll also be selling custom patches for $10 each. Each patch comes with one raffle ticket for a chance to win a stay at a Lazy Haven Cabin in Gatlinburg, TN. Winners can choose from several cabins, with available dates spanning January 10–14, 17–21, or 24–28. Please find the flyer attached, along with images of the patches.
