Anthony Rose, a brave member of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who lost his life on June 30 during the Yarnell Fire, was finally brought home on Wednesday evening. His return was marked by deep respect and heartfelt mourning from the community.
The ashes of Anthony Rose arrived at Waukegan Regional Airport aboard a plane, accompanied by a fellow Granite Mountain Hotshot, two U.S. Forest Service officers, and members of the Phoenix Fire Department honor guard. The arrival was a solemn moment, reflecting the sacrifice made by Anthony and his team.
A large crowd gathered for a touching ceremony, including hundreds of local firefighters, members of the Axemen Motorcycle Club, local police, and many citizens. During the event, Anthony's family received his ashes along with an American flag that had been used in a memorial service held in Phoenix. The gesture was both powerful and deeply moving, symbolizing the unity and support from across the country.
After the ceremony, a procession of police cars, fire trucks, and motorcycles escorted a limousine carrying Anthony’s family to a funeral home in nearby Zion. The sight of the procession reflected the respect and admiration the community has for the fallen firefighter.
