Tianwei independently developed the highest voltage level 800kV shunt reactor in China
On August 20, Baoding Tianwei Baobian Electric Co., Ltd. announced a major breakthrough as its newly developed BKD-60000kVar (Qianwei)/800kV reactor successfully passed all tests and completed its trial operation. This is the first such reactor designed specifically for the second phase expansion of China's newly built 750kV Guanting Substation, marking a significant milestone in the country’s power infrastructure development.
Developed independently by Tianwei Baobian, the reactor is equipped with full intellectual property rights and serves as a critical component for the substation’s expansion. It stands as the highest voltage reactor currently produced in China. The successful trial of this product not only highlights the company’s advanced design capabilities but also underscores the remarkable progress in China’s independent innovation in large-scale power equipment.
As a key element in long-distance transmission systems, shunt reactors are essential for compensating reactive power losses and stabilizing voltage levels. The BKD-60000/800 reactor from Tianwei Baobian features low vibration, minimal noise, low energy loss, a lightweight design, and a simple structure. Its performance is among the best globally, setting a new benchmark in the industry.
According to Ding Qiang, Chairman of Baoding Tianwei Baobian, this achievement marks another step forward in the company’s efforts in ultra-high voltage power transmission and transformation. Following previous innovations such as the first 360MVA/500kV tap-changing transformer, the first 300MVA phase-shifting transformer, and the first 750kV transformer, this latest development reinforces Tianwei Baobian’s leadership in the sector.
The successful creation of this high-voltage reactor further supports the localization of major power equipment in China, contributing significantly to the growth and modernization of the national power industry.
