Ren Jiping, the general manager of Xincheng Company, is a seasoned expert with extensive experience in the research, development, and testing of various types of printing machines. Over the years, he has conducted in-depth studies on offset, gravure, and flexographic printing machines. In recent years, his focus has shifted toward flexographic technology. He has analyzed satellite, cascade, narrow-width, and wide-format flexo presses, carefully studying foreign top-tier models and engaging in discussions with industry experts. This has led to a deep understanding of wide-format flexo printing technology.
In designing the wide-format flexographic printing machine, Xincheng integrated advanced concepts from global gravure printing machines, including full automatic tension control and computerized overprint control systems. This unique design approach allowed the company to complete the development and production of an 8-color unit wide-format flexo printing machine within six months. The machine offers a well-structured layout, high automation, broad performance parameters, easy operation, strong practicality, and excellent cost-performance ratio.
The equipment is primarily used for printing on roll paper and plastic films. Thanks to the use of flexible resin plates, it can tolerate variations in surface smoothness and thickness. When using high-quality paper, the print quality is comparable to that of gravure and offset printing machines. For medium and low-grade paper, the results are even better. When printing on plastic film, the effect is close to that of gravure printing, making it highly suitable for large-scale applications.
Key features of the machine include full-automatic tension control, ensuring stable paper tension during printing. The unwinding system uses a Japanese Mitsubishi automatic tension control system, providing reliable stability. The winding system is driven by an independent vector variable frequency motor, with PLC closed-loop control for the main motor. Tension detection involves low-friction cylinders, floating pendulum rollers, and rotary encoders, which compensate for changes in the paper path and maintain consistent tension. An automatic clutch pressure (oil pressure) system ensures that the plate roller remains in contact with the embossing roller, maintaining constant printing pressure and overprinting position.
The printing and traction wallboards are made of high-quality cast iron with a thickness of 90mm, while the main base is 160mm thick, ensuring stability and shock absorption. Machining holes in key positions guarantee accurate positioning of the rack panels. A vertical and horizontal computerized overprint system ensures precise alignment under varying conditions. The motor-driven plate and anilox roller slides allow quick adjustments between color units, improving work efficiency. The winding system includes automatic cutting and counting, ensuring accurate print quantity and reducing material waste.
The heating system features central heating with sub-unit fans and adjustable temperature settings, adapting to different air volume, wind pressure, and temperature requirements. The sealed oven structure with thermal recycling ensures efficient heat utilization and a better working environment. The entire machine is controlled by a multi-motor PLC synchronous system, making it easy to expand functions and share resources online.
During the demonstration, the machine operated smoothly, reaching speeds over 100 meters per minute with minimal noise. The print quality was impressive, with accurate overprinting, vibrant colors, and a rich three-dimensional effect. Despite being a flexo press, the image had depth and a strong ink feel, which impressed visitors. Industry experts and business representatives were highly satisfied, praising the machine's performance and design.
Ren Jiping emphasized that the design of wide-format machines differs significantly from narrow-width ones. He stressed the importance of rational design and precise manufacturing. The company selected the best tension and overprint control systems, with strict standards for gear design. To ensure accuracy, they collaborated with professional manufacturers in East China, controlling vibration to within two wires. Thick wall panels of up to 90mm ensure smooth and stable operation.
At the technical exchange seminar, participants praised the machine’s capabilities and acknowledged Xincheng’s contribution to the industry. A CEO from a major corrugated box company highlighted the urgent need for wide-format flexo machines in the paper packaging sector. Flexographic pre-printing offers clear advantages over gravure, supporting environmental protection and pollution-free operations. Although they had visited several manufacturers, most wide-format machines were just enlarged versions of narrow ones, lacking true maturity.
An experienced expert from Shanghai confirmed that the machine met all user requirements and had already secured an order from a Taiwanese company in Shanghai. With increasing market demand, wide-format flexo printing machines are becoming essential tools in the industry.
