How a Diaphragm Pump Works
The pump is driven by an AC or DC motor. In front of the motor is a valve assembly containing two to five pump chambers. Each chamber has a diaphragm behind it in the lower housing. As the motor turns, an internal cam pushes the diaphragms forward and backward in a continuous sequence, creating suction. This suction pulls fluid through the inlet and into the outlet via check valves. The flow rate depends on factors like the number and size of pump chambers, cam offset, operating pressure, and fluid viscosity.
