The Bartlett Fire Protection District serves the Village of Bartlett, as well as unincorporated areas of Hoffman Estates and parts of Wayne Township. This unique coverage spans two counties—Cook and DuPage. While Bartlett is dispatched through DU-COMM, it is also a member of MABAS Division 2. The department operates from three stations: two are staffed with an ambulance and an engine, while the third houses a jump company equipped with a tower ladder, a 3,000-gallon tanker (tender), and a brush truck. Over the years, the fire apparatus have transitioned from bright yellow to black and red, though some older units still retain their original color. Notably, one 1993 Seagrave engine was originally delivered in yellow and has since been repainted in black and red. The latest additions to the fleet include three Pierce Velocity engines. Before these, the department had two E-ONE units, which followed a pair of Seagrave engines. In the 1980s and earlier, Bartlett (then known as the Bartlett and Countryside FPD) acquired Howe and Grumman engines, marking a significant era in its history. Among the historic vehicles is a 1993 Seagrave TB30DF 1000/750 TM unit, serial number 78589, now decommissioned and available for sale. Originally painted in yellow, this engine was part of a pair delivered to Bartlett in the early 1990s. Another notable unit is Engine 612, which was the first of two similar Seagraves delivered in 1993. These units were built on different chassis but shared similar specifications. In the 1980s, Bartlett received two Ford C8000-based Grumman FireCat engines, which were previously manufactured by Howe. These units featured 1,000-GPM pumps and 750-gallon water tanks. Earlier, in the 1970s, the department acquired two Hendrickson 1871S/International/Howe engines, each with 750 gallons of water and a 1,000-GPM pump. One of these, Engine 613, was delivered in 1977, while its sister unit arrived in 1973. Even older is the 1963 Ford C950/Howe engine #616, featuring a 1,000-GPM pump and 800 gallons of water. This unit highlights the evolution of fire apparatus over time. Another standout piece of equipment is the 1997 HME/US Tanker, a 3,000-gallon tender that is one of only three in the area, shared with Palatine Rural and East Dundee FPDs. These tankers were famously seen working together during a major fire in Barrington in 2008. Before the HME unit, Bartlett operated a large 8,000-gallon tractor-trailer tanker, powered by an L-Series Ford. This vehicle played a crucial role in firefighting efforts, including a high-profile 3-11 alarm fire in Barrington in 1994. These historical pieces provide a fascinating glimpse into the development of Bartlett's fire department over the decades.
