The Bartlett Fire Protection District serves the Village of Bartlett, as well as unincorporated areas of Hoffman Estates and parts of Wayne Township. This unique coverage spans two counties—Cook and DuPage. While Bartlett is dispatched through DU-COMM, it is also a member of MABAS Division 2, reflecting its regional cooperation. The district operates from three stations: two are staffed with ambulances and engines, while the third houses a jump company equipped with a tower ladder, a 3,000-gallon tanker (tender), and a brush truck. Over the years, the department’s vehicles have transitioned from bright yellow to black and red, though some older units still retain their original color. Among the latest additions are three Pierce Velocity engines, marking a modernization effort. Before these, Bartlett operated two E-ONE units, which were themselves preceded by a pair of Seagrave engines. In the 1980s and earlier, the department—then known as the Bartlett and Countryside Fire Protection District—acquired engines from Howe and Grumman, later rebranded under Grumman FireCat. One of the most notable retired units is a 1993 Seagrave engine, originally painted in bright yellow and now repainted black and red. It was one of two similar units delivered in 1991 and 1993. Another historic unit is Engine 612, which was initially named for its delivery in 1993. It featured high-side compartments, distinguishing it from its sister unit. Earlier models include two Ford C8000 chassis-based Grumman FireCat engines from 1982, as well as a pair of Hendrickson 1871S/International/Howe units from the 1970s. These early engines carried 750 gallons of water and had 1,000-GPM pumps. Even further back, a 1963 Ford C950/Howe engine, #616, served the department, featuring a 1,000-GPM pump and 800 gallons of water. A standout piece of equipment is the 1997 HME/US Tanker, a 3,000-gallon tender that joined two others in the region, serving Palatine Rural and East Dundee FPD. These tankers worked together during a major fire in Barrington in September 2008, showcasing regional coordination. Before this, Bartlett operated an 8,000-gallon tractor-trailer tanker, powered by an L-Series Ford. This unit was used during a significant fire on November 10, 1994, at Pepper Road and Route 14 in Barrington. Though no longer in service, it played a critical role in the department's history. These historical and modern units reflect the evolution of Bartlett Fire Department, blending tradition with innovation to serve its community effectively.
