This just in from Chicago Fire Department's social media feed. A fire broke out early this morning at the Salvation and Deliverance Ministries International Church located at the intersection of West Pierce Avenue and North Spaulding Avenue. Initial reports indicate that the blaze was primarily concentrated in the church's steeple. Firefighters arrived on the scene promptly and managed to control the situation with the help of multiple master streams. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries so far. One witness, Christian Arturo, shared an Instagram post expressing shock over the incident, using hashtags like #churchfire and #sadnews to convey his sentiments. The fire quickly gained significant attention on social media as more details started to emerge. According to further updates, a second-alarm response was triggered, with around four engines and seven personnel dispatched to the scene. The intensity of the fire required a robust firefighting effort, particularly focusing on dousing flames in the church’s iconic spire. As of now, firefighters are still working to fully extinguish lingering embers at the top of the steeple. Extra alarms were called in to ensure sufficient resources were available to handle the situation effectively. Local photographer Larry Shapiro captured several images of the scene, offering a glimpse into the extent of the damage. More photos can be found on his website, Shapirophotography.net. The community is rallying together, with many expressing concern for the congregation and their beloved place of worship. It’s a somber reminder of how quickly such incidents can unfold, even in otherwise peaceful neighborhoods. We’ll continue to update you as more information becomes available. Stay safe, Chicago.
