It’s not just the printers that make a difference—it’s what you can print. Formlabs Dental’s new Precision Model Resin empowers dental professionals to create restorative models with remarkable accuracy. Over 99% of the printed surface area is within 100 microns of the digital model, setting a new industry standard. Formlabs Dental users have already printed over 15 million dental parts using our 15+ dental-specific resins, but we’re always striving to push boundaries in digital dentistry. Leveraging the advanced hardware of the Form 4B, we’ve developed materials that redefine excellence.
Precision Model Resin is the next-generation Model Resin, designed to take full advantage of the Form 4 ecosystem. It offers faster print speeds, superior accuracy, and enhanced aesthetics. This resin is tailored to produce restorative models with exceptional detail and consistency. Whether you're creating crown fit test models, implant models, or removable die models, Precision Model Resin delivers outstanding results.
Dr. Christopher Baer, DMD, of Baer Dental, praises the resin’s appearance: "Precision model looks fantastic. I really like the color of crowns on these models. The team at Formlabs did a great job nailing the color." Form 4’s new hardware also allows for print speeds that are three times faster than previous versions, enabling you to print eight restorative models in just 90 minutes at a 50-micron layer thickness, with a cost per part ranging from $2 to $4.
**Precision and Accuracy:**
Restorative models printed on Form 4B with Precision Model Resin at a 50-micron layer height show 99.7% of the printed surface within 100 microns of the CAD model, and 95% within 50 microns. This minimal variability and high consistency across printers, print batches, and the build platform ensure reliable production of high-accuracy models.
Compare Precision Model Resin to leading competitors, and you’ll find it surpasses expectations. In tests conducted at 50-micron settings, Precision Model Resin outperforms others in all measured tolerance ranges.
| Tolerance Range | Formlabs Precision Model Resin (Form 4B) | Asiga DentaMODEL (Asiga Max UV) | SprintRay Die and Model 2 (SprintRay Pro 95) |

**Production-Optimized Workflow:**
Speed isn’t just about print time; it extends to post-processing as well, streamlining the entire workflow. Once the patient’s dentition is scanned and the model designed in your dental CAD software, import the digital models into Formlabs’ free PreForm Dental software as an STL or OBJ file. Orient the parts directly on the build platform in PreForm, ensuring dies are manually oriented and supported for optimal results.
After uploading the print, prepare the printer by inserting a resin tank, Precision Model Resin cartridge, and a clean build platform. Remove the parts from the build platform using tools like chamfer features or flush cutters, then wash them in 99% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) in the Form Wash for five minutes. Allow parts to dry before curing in the Form Cure for five minutes at 35°C or using the Fast Cure option for 30 seconds at Light Intensity 2.
**Improved Material Properties:**
Precision Model Resin is tougher, stronger, and more impact-resistant than its predecessor, Model Resin. Post-cured prints resist breaking, offering greater durability when pressing in dies or implant analogs. Its ultimate tensile strength is 50.0 MPa, with a tensile modulus of 2.2 GPa and elongation at break of 8.6%.

**Case Study at Hybridge Implants:**
Hybridge Implants, a nationwide provider of full-mouth implant-supported prosthetic appliances, relies heavily on precise models. Before adopting Precision Model Resin on Form 4B, they printed two separate models—one for the metal department in Rigid 10K Resin and another for the assembly team in Model Resin V3. Precision Model Resin combines strength and speed, allowing Hybridge to use a single model for both teams, saving both time and resources.
