Dual-purpose bikes are designed to be capable off-road but also include specific features that allow them to be street legal. Motorcycles typically feature an aluminum or steel frame, disc brakes, and a front fork that carries the front wheel. Other body parts may be included for performance or aesthetic purposes. A gasoline-powered engine is usually comprised of one to four cylinders, although some motorcycles may have up to eight cylinders. This is combined with a manual sequential transmission. The swing-arm-mounted rear wheel is driven by a belt, driveshaft or chain. Various types of motorcycle designs feature different dynamics that affect how the vehicle will perform in different conditions.
Some motorcycle designs achieve much higher fuel economy. Motorcycles do tend to offer good fuel economy because of their high power-to-weight ratio and smaller engine size.
