Manual Control of CNC Lathes
CNC lathes allow operators to control various functions such as feed movement, spindle rotation, tool indexing, coolant activation, and chip conveyor operation through the control panel. These operations can be performed manually, giving the user direct control over the machine’s performance.
First, feed movement operation
Feed movement in a CNC lathe can be either continuous or jog mode. In continuous feed, pressing the coordinate key causes the tool to move continuously until the key is released. In jog mode, each press of the key moves the tool by a preset distance, offering more precise control. Operators can choose between these modes depending on their needs, whether for quick positioning or fine adjustments.

Second, spindle and coolant operation

Third, manual tool change
For CNC lathes equipped with an automatic tool changer, the tool turret can be indexed automatically via programmed instructions. However, in some cases, manual control via the panel may also be required, especially during setup or troubleshooting. This allows the operator to select and position the correct tool for the job.
Fourth, chip control
The chip conveyor can be controlled using specific buttons on the panel, allowing the operator to start, stop, or reverse its operation. This helps in efficiently removing chips from the work area, preventing damage to the machine or workpiece. If chips become jammed, the conveyor can be turned off temporarily to clear the blockage. Proper chip management is crucial for maintaining a safe and efficient machining environment.
