New breakthroughs in major equipment of the North Heavy Industry Roller Mill
On December 4th, Guodian Jiangsu Taizhou Power Generation Co., Ltd. celebrated a major milestone as the first phase of its 1000MW ultra-supercritical unit (Unit 1) successfully completed the 168-hour trial run. The performance of six MPS280 roller-type coal mills, manufactured by North Heavy Industry, stood out during this period. These high-performance mills demonstrated advanced technology, excellent quality, and a well-structured design that made installation and maintenance more efficient. Their stable operation, low resistance, and energy consumption have exceeded many imported alternatives, earning widespread recognition from both project owners and industry experts.
This achievement marks another significant breakthrough for North Heavy Industry, following the successful deployment of 12 BBD4360 double-inlet and double-out coal mills at Shandong Zouxian Power Plant’s 210MW unit. Today, among China’s three 1000MW unit projects, the coal mill equipment in these two projects is exclusively supplied by North Heavy Industry, all with independent intellectual property rights.
The 2100MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired unit at Guodian Taizhou Power Generation is a key national project. It is the third 1000MW unit currently operating in China and the first to adopt a medium-speed coal milling system. This project serves as a strong example of domestically developed equipment, showcasing the capabilities of Chinese engineering. In 2005, North Heavy Industry won the contract for 12 medium-speed coal mills for the project, thanks to its advanced technical solutions and the use of large vertical mills.
The MPS280 roller-type coal mill, designed for the 1000MW ultra-supercritical unit, was a major R&D project in 2006. The Heavy Industry Design Institute leveraged international experience and developed the largest and most advanced MPS280 coal mill in China. It retained the core features of traditional MPS mills while introducing innovations such as dynamic lifting rollers, external hydraulic loading, and a new dual-channel pneumatic slag discharge system. A novel axial assembly dipping lower frame sealing ring structure was also introduced for easier disassembly.
Additionally, the mill incorporated a dynamic and static combined rotary separator, rotating nozzle ring, loading and connecting type, and an optimized grinding area structure, including the grinding roller device. All components were designed using 3D software, ensuring precision and efficiency. This technological advancement highlights North Heavy Industry's growing expertise in power generation equipment and its commitment to innovation and quality.
