Price and 2.0 quite new Mondeo 2.5 listed before and after the Spring Festival

In December 2002, there were rumors circulating that the Mondeo 2.0 model was being phased out by Changan Ford, with some reports suggesting it might be discontinued in preparation for the upcoming launch of the Mondeo 2.5L. However, these claims were quickly denied by Changan Ford executives. On December 17, a spokesperson clarified that the Mondeo 2.0 was not being stopped from production and was, in fact, running overtime to meet strong market demand. The confusion reportedly stemmed from temporary stock shortages in certain markets, particularly in Sichuan. Local dealers mistakenly interpreted these shortages as a sign of production halting, leading to misunderstandings among consumers and media. Changan Ford emphasized that this was not the case and that the Mondeo 2.0 remained a key product in their lineup. Since the introduction of its first model, the "Carnival," in January 2003, Changan Ford has continued to expand its presence in the Chinese market. The European version of the Mondeo was also launched through the joint venture, and it quickly gained popularity among car enthusiasts. To further boost sales, Changan Ford organized a nationwide test drive campaign in mid-November, which helped increase interest in both the Carnival and the Mondeo. A senior executive at Changan Ford stated that sales of these two models would surpass 20,000 units by the end of the year. In addition, Ford has been strengthening its marketing team by transferring experienced executives from its U.S. headquarters and Ford Liuhe in Taiwan. For example, Ye Mingxin, who recently joined from Ford Liuhe, is now serving as a market consultant. An insider also mentioned that a highly experienced marketing professional from Ford’s Taiwan operations will take charge of promoting high-end models like the Mondeo in the future. Looking ahead, Changan Ford plans to continue expanding its Mondeo lineup. Ian Tinworth, a senior powertrain engineer at Ford's European Car Development Center, confirmed that the Mondeo 2.5L would be launched early next year, with a price similar to the current Mondeo 2.0 model. By the end of 2003, Changan Ford’s dealership network is expected to exceed 60, with plans to reach 120 by 2004. To support this growth, Ford Motor Company and Changan Group announced a $1 billion investment to enhance production capacity, introduce new models, and expand sales channels. The details of the second factory and engine plant, which have been widely discussed, are nearly finalized and will be officially announced soon. This expansion underscores Ford's long-term commitment to the Chinese market and its confidence in the future of the Mondeo series.
