Chlor-Alkali industry to promote the use of water ring vacuum pump
In recent years, China has launched numerous large-scale infrastructure and technological upgrading projects. These initiatives have significantly increased the demand for PVC materials, especially in the real estate sector, which has further driven the growth of the PVC industry. According to statistics from the chlor-alkali industry, China produced 4.1 million tons of PVC last year, with an additional 200 tons imported. Industry forecasts suggest that national PVC demand will reach 8 million tons by 2005 and 15 million tons by 2010. This rapid rise in demand has prompted chlor-alkali enterprises to expand their production capacities. Over the past few years, many new companies have emerged in this sector.
As part of these developments, water ring vacuum pumps and compressors have become essential equipment for extracting and compressing acetylene and hydrogen. Previously, the largest units were around 30 m³/min, but now, for plants producing 100,000 tons of caustic soda and 100,000 tons of PVC annually, water ring pumps and compressors with a capacity of up to 70 m³/min are required.
It's worth noting that the growth of this industry has also accelerated the development of high-performance water ring compressors. For a long time, China’s water ring compressors operated at suction pressures of around atmospheric or slightly below, with discharge pressures of about 0.1 MPa and a compression ratio of 2. Some manufacturers have developed compressors capable of reaching 25 MPaG, but only in limited specifications. To meet the needs of PVC production, the former State Council's Major Equipment Office included in the "85" key technology project the development of a unit for low-polymerization-degree PVC with an annual output of 4 tons. This project required a water ring compressor capable of operating at atmospheric pressure or slight vacuum, discharging at 0.55–0.6 MPaG, and delivering a flow rate of 700 m³/min.
After years of research and development, our company successfully passed the technical appraisal organized by the former Ministry of Machinery Industry in December 1996. The customer requirements were fully met. Building on this success, we have since developed a range of products with capacities ranging from 90 m³/min to 2000 m³/h. As one of the core pieces of equipment in the PVC industry, these water ring compressors have been widely adopted, especially in the context of major PVC projects in China, and have completely replaced imported alternatives.
