Borealis offers new automotive materials for the Peugeot 308

Borealis, a global leader in innovative value-added plastics solutions, has partnered with two key industry players, Foglia and Valeo, to deliver advanced interior components for the Peugeot 308 under PSA Peugeot Citroën. These collaborations highlight Borealis' commitment to providing high-quality materials that meet the rigorous demands of modern automotive design. Borealis’ Daplen and Borcom product lines have become essential in the production of premium interiors for the Peugeot 308. In the development of injection-molded dashboards, Faurecia opted for Daplen EE188AI, a high-performance polypropylene composite containing 15% mineral filler. This material not only meets the stringent requirements of Foglia and Citroën but also delivers excellent flow properties, making it ideal for complex molding processes. For the development of the interior air temperature control system, Valeo selected Borcom BG055AI, an innovative polypropylene microcomposite designed to enhance performance while maintaining lightweight characteristics. These materials are at the heart of Peugeot’s efforts to redefine automotive interiors, focusing on both aesthetics and functionality. When designing the dashboard, Peugeot aimed to create a user experience that would leave a lasting impression. The company emphasized the importance of surface quality—not just as a feature at the time of purchase, but as a factor that influences the car's overall perceived value throughout its lifetime. This required materials with exceptional scratch resistance and durability. At the Saint-Michel production facility in France, Faurecia sought a new material that could offer superior flow properties and a broad processing window. Daplen EE188AI proved to be the perfect solution, offering a balance between performance, ease of use, and environmental considerations. Peugeot highlighted that the new automotive interiors set a new benchmark in design, going beyond traditional aesthetic functions. The fluidity of the shapes, the elegance of the design, and the use of high-quality materials—both visually and tactilely—contribute to a premium feel that is currently missing from the market. “Combining the required aesthetics with scratch resistance is a major challenge,” said Franz Zängerl, Development Manager for the Scandinavian Automotive Business. “Borealis’ Daplen EE188AI is a polypropylene compound with 15% mineral filler that meets the strict standards of both Citroën and Foglia. Beyond scratch resistance, Daplen products are known for their low density, excellent surface finish, mechanical strength, and minimal emissions.” These innovations underline Borealis’ role in shaping the future of automotive interiors, delivering materials that support both design excellence and functional performance.
