In July, the accumulative production and sales of automobiles have exceeded 5 million SUVs.

In July of this year, the automotive industry saw a month-over-month decline in both production and sales. However, when compared to the same period last year, the sector still showed strong growth, especially in the SUV segment, which continued to outperform other vehicle types. Looking at passenger cars specifically, most categories experienced a drop in production and sales from June, with the exception of multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs), which saw a small increase. Among passenger cars, crossover models had the most significant decline in both production and sales. On an annual basis, however, all passenger car segments maintained strong growth, with SUVs leading the way—showing year-on-year increases of 103.39% and 100.80%, respectively. The production-to-sales ratio for SUVs was particularly high at 110.33%, while crossovers also performed well, with a ratio of 91.59%. For commercial vehicles, July brought mixed results. While non-complete passenger vehicles saw a slight rise in production, other types faced declines, especially in non-integrated trucks and buses. Compared to the same time last year, non-integral passenger vehicles continued to see a small drop, but other commercial vehicle segments grew rapidly. Semi-Trailer tractors led the way, with production and sales increasing by 1.3 and 1.4 times, respectively. Overall, most commercial vehicle categories maintained a healthy production-to-sales ratio above 100%, indicating strong market performance. In terms of major manufacturers, the top 10 automakers by sales in July were FAW, SAIC, Dongfeng, Changan, BAIC, GAC, Chery, Brilliance, JAC, and Hafei. Brilliance and JAC saw minor increases, while the rest reported declines. Changan and Chery had the biggest drops, falling by 37.50% and 21.80%, respectively. Together, these ten companies accounted for 83% of total automobile sales in July, totaling 53.10 million units. This data highlights the ongoing trends in the auto industry, with SUVs driving growth and some manufacturers struggling to maintain their previous momentum. As the market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these dynamics shift in the coming months.
