China's fully automatic laser tailor welding zero prototype has been successfully developed

In a major breakthrough, the first prototype of China's first fully automatic laser tailor-welding production line has been successfully developed in Shenyang. This innovative system was created through a joint effort between the Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Japan's Ishikawajima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (IHI). The collaboration marks a significant step forward in advanced manufacturing technology and highlights the growing international partnership in industrial innovation. Shenyang Automation has long been recognized for its expertise in industrial automation, robotics, advanced manufacturing systems, and optoelectronic technologies. IHI, a global leader and one of the world's top 500 companies, brings extensive experience in heavy machinery, energy, chemical, environmental protection, shipbuilding, and processing equipment. The combination of these two strong entities has led to a powerful synergy in developing cutting-edge solutions. The partnership began in February 2005 when SIA and IHI established the SIA-IHI Joint Research and Development Center in Shenyang. Since then, they have focused on advancing laser tailor welding technology and the development of complete production systems. Through joint research and development, the team overcame several critical technical challenges, particularly in the development of tailor-welded wire systems. This fully automated laser tailor-welding production line utilizes high-precision laser technology combined with robotic systems for automated loading, unloading, and welding. It is capable of joining plates made from different materials, thicknesses, and coatings, making it highly versatile. The system is primarily targeted at large steel enterprises, automotive manufacturers, and shipbuilding companies, offering enhanced efficiency and quality. The successful development of this equipment is expected to significantly boost the value of steel products, reduce costs for automakers, and improve environmental sustainability.
