LONDON, July 17, 2013 — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has joined forces with F1 in Schools to offer students and schools involved in the program free access to a wide range of Autodesk 3D design software. This collaboration is set to support over 20 million students across 40 countries who are challenged to design a futuristic scale-model Formula One car. As the leading software partner for F1 in Schools, Autodesk is playing a key role in shaping the future of engineering education. Andrew Denford, founder and chairman of F1 in Schools, expressed his excitement about the partnership. “Having Autodesk on board is a huge milestone for us as we continue to grow the program and expand into new regions,” he said. “This partnership will help remove financial barriers for schools, allowing more students to participate and explore the world of design and engineering.” Through this initiative, students, teachers, and schools will gain free access to powerful tools that allow them to visualize, simulate, and design their ideas before building physical models from balsa wood. The collaboration highlights Autodesk’s ongoing commitment to supporting STEM education by giving young learners early exposure to digital design tools that foster creativity and innovation. Chris Bradshaw, Chief Marketing Officer at Autodesk, shared his enthusiasm. “It's incredible to see students as young as nine using professional-grade software like virtual wind tunnels to test their designs,” he said. “This partnership gives them a chance to develop a lifelong passion for design and engineering.” The F1 in Schools program challenges students aged 9 to 19 to form their own Formula One teams, where they design, build, and race a 21cm-long model car made from balsa wood and powered by compressed air. Each team creates a pit display, presents their work, and competes on a 20-meter track. Regional winners go on to compete nationally, with the top teams advancing to the World Finals in Austin, Texas, where they vie for the Bernie Ecclestone World Champions trophy and valuable scholarships. The partnership was officially announced today at an event held at Savoy Place in London, home to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
